It's been said that "we'd rather beat LSU, but we'd rather not lose to Mississippi State." / / State fans are rivals because they have to be (in-state forces that as a rivalry). But the rivalry with LSU is more fun, as their fanbase's culture prioritizes many of the same things as the Ole Miss fanbase, things like quality food, camaraderie (regardless of team affiliation), and drinking. LSU fans will yell obscenities about your team, but then they'll share their liquor. / / Mississippi State fans are cannot hold their liquor, aren't as good cooks, and take the rivalry too seriously. The rivalry with MSU is not fun.

Our campus culture and educational focuses are pretty much polar opposites, so different types of people tend to gravitate towards each school. / / For LSU, they just are the plain worst college football fans around.
